KU Leuven (KUL)

KU Leuven (KUL), founded in 1425, is a research-intensive University and a fertile setting for both fundamental and applied research with a strong interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary background and a distinct international orientation. We aim for research excellence, a contribution to societal and cultural debates and the realisation of a real-knowledge society. Individual initiative, critical reflection, collaboration, solidarity, academic freedom, and diversity are key concepts in realising these goals.

The Department of Materials Engineering (MTM) of the KUL is involved in several strategic fields of materials research and development, balancing fundamental and applied research under the umbrella of sustainability. The Dept. MTM has a multicultural and international profile, currently representing over 30 nationalities with about 90 PhD students and 25 post-docs on a total of around 220 employees. Important values are relevance for society, continuity and trust, and confidentiality in long-term cooperation with strong industrial partners.
