Politecnico di Torino (POLITO)

Politecnico di Torino (POLITO) was the first Italian Engineering School: founded as School for Engineers in 1859, it then became Regio Politecnico di Torino in 1906. Engineers and architects have been trained at POLITO for over 160 years. Today, POLITO has about 38,700 students and a teaching staff of more than 1,000.

The Department of Applied Science and Technology (DISAT), directed by Prof Debora Fino, has staff of about 200 working on research and education in materials science and technology, chemical engineering, and physics. A wide and complementary range of disciplines are explored at DISAT, such as physics of condensed matter and fundamental interactions, nanotechnology, chemistry, materials science and technology, etc. The DISAT activities range from the conception of new processes to the development of new chemical reactors using modelling and experimental tools, and from the optimisation of control strategies and devices to the design of pilot and industrial-scale plants. The DISAT research group involved in SCORPION is GLANCE (Glasses, Ceramics and Composites).
